More info More info More info More info Shop Name: blobhouse What you like to go by: Gesine When did you start your shop? I have had my shop since June 2010. I just had my 100th sale a few weeks ago. Is this your only job? No, I work full time in animation, designing and directing for animated commercials. My etsy store is just a side line that I do for fun- a place where I am not restricted by the demands of commercial art. Of course my animation background can be seen in the sculptures in my store- knowing how to create strong facial expressions, telling simple stories through the sculptures. I love the idea that the creatures I sell on Etsy are sitting on shelves and mantle pieces in houses all over the world now. That’s the biggest kick I get out of having an Etsy store. When did you realize you had this talent? I pretty much always knew I wanted to do art. Where do you find your inspiration? I don’t really go looking for inspiration. I always have way more ideas than I can ever find the time to do. Often I wake up in the morning with an idea that I just have to turn into reality! I do keep up to date on what is happening in animation, illustration and the art world as much as possible and there are many things that I love out there. But in the end everything in my work comes out of that big filing cabinet that is my brain. Who has been the most supportive of your work? Well everybody, starting with my childhood friend’s mum, who would frame our drawings and take them seriously when we were 7. My parents who let me go to art school. Everybody I met along the way who encouraged me to do this art thing. What is one thing you would like to accomplish that you haven’t yet? Oh, there are many things: I would like to publish a children’s book. I would like to make a really big outdoor sculpture out of concrete . I would like to have one of my critters mass produced and distributed. I would like to create an animated TV show. The list goes on. But for all the things that I’m still dreaming of doing, there are so many things that I have already accomplished and that I am proud of. More info Excerpt From Profile: Hey, I was on TV! Oregon Public Broadcasting made a short film about me. Watch it online here. Other interesting facts about me: I have been an animation professional for the past 18 years and have been drawing and sculpting squiggly creatures for as long as I remember. I was born in Germany, studied fine art at Kunstakademie Stuttgart and went on to earn an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art in London. My style has shaped the look of many advertising campaigns and chances are good that you have seen my work in print and on television. While lending my design sense to numerous ad campaigns, I have also always pursued more personal art projects including short films, sculptures and paintings, and have exhibited my work in galleries in Oregon and California. You can find more of my work here.

More info Shop Name: Studio By the Forest What you like to go by: Anna When did you start your shop? I originally started my shop back in 2006, then named ALDDesigns, where I mainly sold my lampworked glass beads and some jewelry. I became unable to still create glass beads due to some health issues and switched to working with clay. Recently after a move across the state and several other life-changing events I decided to change the name of my shop to StudioBytheForest. Is this your only job? This is my only paying job, though I’m a stay-at-home Mom to 4 children, so I keep pretty busy! I use my shop income to help with family expenses and to pay for supplies. More info When did you realize you had this talent? My Mom tells tales of me trying to sculpt with any remotely malleable material, be it mashed potatoes, mud, or play-doh when I was less than a year old. Though most of my “pieces” resembled snowmen and not the animals I was trying to make. Where do you find your inspiration? I find my greatest inspirations in the animals that visit my yard, the leaves and acorns that fall from my trees, and from taking long hikes through the forest nearby. Who has been the most supportive of your work? My husband and my parents have been very supportive of me. They have made sure I’ve had the equipment and supplies I’ve needed. My husband bought me a new large kiln last year for Valentines Day and he and my Dad wired it for me. My Mom is always More info finding all kinds of interesting things for me to use in my pieces. What is one thing you would like to accomplish that you haven’t yet? I would really love to be able to really consistently contribute to my family’s income. I love that Etsy has given me a way to “sell my wares” yet still be available for my kids. What are your words to live by or favorite quote? Ooh this is tough, this quote represents the way I think very well: “Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more.” ~Vincent Van Gogh Enhanced by Zemanta

Tamara sure does have some one of a kind pieces in her shop! As well as an eye for design! Check out some of them here and read about her story! More info Shop Name: Crimson Presence Jewelry What you like to go by: Tamara When did you start your shop? July 14, 2010 Is this your only job? Yes, morning, noon and night. Like being a mom except in some ways harder. As a mother you work to take care of your child and see them happy. As a jewelry designer, maker and shop owner you work not only to support your child and self but to see that every person that comes into your shop walks away and happy. More info When did you realize you had this talent? Back in high school. I loved how jewelry could make you feel beautiful and good about yourself. I used to make simple jewelry for myself. Just beads on stretch cord. One day a class mate asked me to make her something. I saw the way her eyes lit up when I gave it to her and knew from then on I had some talent and wanted to make it grow and see what else I could do. Where do you find your inspiration? Every and anywhere. A building gives me the structure and a painting gives me the colors. Most times I am just in the store looking at a wall of beads and something sparks in my mind. I look like a mad person going from one isle to the next grabbing other items and laying them out. Mind slowly building the idea and design as I see the pieces come together. Who has been the most supportive of your work? Friends and family. My son who says he wants to make jewelry with me when he grows up. Two dear friends especially. James who I have known for 4 years and Danielle who I have known for 1. When everyone else is saying to give up and get a 9 to 5 job, I hear them and I know I am on the right path. More info What is one thing you would like to accomplish that you haven’t yet? Turning my online shop and jewelry hobby, as some call it, into a full time and life long career. My own physical shop in town , where I can have a workshop and sell my jewelry. What are your words to live by or favorite quote? It may sound a little crude but : Success or death ; And I’m not ready to die just yet! Enhanced by Zemanta

Jewelry Supply Post: Misanthropycreations.com

If you make necklaces and bracelets and don’t have one of these you need to get one! I can’t tell you how useful mine has become! The board is measured out for you, and allows you to place beads in the order they will appear on your piece. It allows you to visualize the concept you have in your head without wasting supplies during the creations process! Check out some reviews: “How wonderful to have a larger bead board with a cover to protect and contain my current creations. It is portable and almost anywhere you go there is a table or desk for set up. My creations are my art in progress. I like the fact they remain undisturbed from my playful, but nosy, cat. He thinks he would like to bead also! ” “These are fantastic and well worth the price. Having the ability to cover up the tray to save for another time is such a great idea. I highly recommend these for beaders. The only minor issue is I wish it had more beading lines but since they send you two, I guess that’s technically not an issue. Great Product!!!!!!!” Enhanced by Zemanta

Francesca creates solid perfumes and soaps! Her shop is so beautiful you can almost smell them! Read more about her shop here:  Shop Name: Pacific Perfumes What you like to go by: Francesca More info When did you start your shop? Just over a year ago Is this your only job? No, I also run a women only Guesthouse called The Mermaid in Wellington , NZ which I started 15 years ago in a Victorian house that I renovated and furnished with vintage and antique quirky possessions which I acquired over years of traveling. I am an unashamed collector of the weird and wonderful. When did you realize you had this talent? I always enjoyed trading, even from a child where my best friend and I collected copper and metal bits and pieces and sold to Metal Dealers to buy records! When I left home at the young age of 18 to see the world my first stop was in Kathmandu where I bought shirts and beads to sell at my next destination. The traders of the Silk road and the Perfume & Spice Traders in the middle east feel like my ancient ancestors! I then More info continued the trading when I traveled to Greece at 20 and traded small perfumes to the locals that I’d acquired in London. I thought- why don’t I just try to make these myself? The concept was developed, I sourced the materials and began. I realized I loved the idea of perfume and the many facets of it in relation to why people wear it and want it and I became successful in the way I made it. Where do you find your inspiration? My inspiration seems to drop out of the sky. Ideas that manifest from unexpected moments, often a conversation that is unrelated to the idea, an image I see, a gathering I attend, a moment when I am drumming or surrounded by exciting landscapes. I have to keep stimulated with new ways of being. Inspiration happens when I am freshly involved with a new project, then I get inspired to move deeper into the concepts I am pursuing and my mind just More info expands and overflows. When Im inspired like this I have to pull back a little so I can remember where the hell (excuse my swearing) I’m going with these ideas. Who has been the most supportive of your work? My darling daughter Phaedra is incredibly supportive of my ideas and business and my partner Kate is also very supportive. My mother is probably my biggest fan! I often don’t expect My friends to know what i’m doing but then suddenly one or two will say how much they admire this or that and I’m like- wow, that’s wonderful! What is one thing you would like to accomplish that you haven’t yet? In business? I’d like to get involved in producing essential oils and Absolutes, either by having land where the Botanicals are grown, like own a Vanilla/ Spice farm in Fiji or help to organize such productions in various More info Islands here in the Pacific. I travel a lot to Samoa, Fiji and Hawaii. The Pacific is such a rich, diverse and wonderful area of this earth with incredible potential. In life? Africa is a continent that awaits me. What are your words to live by or favorite quote? I think we can’t go wrong with: All we are saying is give peace a chance. John Lennon Excerpt from Profile: I am a Perfumer and entrepreneur living in Aotearoa (New Zealand) which in Maori means Land of the Long White Cloud. I’m also Co-Founder of Pacific Perfumes. We make a variety of solid Perfumes and beautiful Soaps that come from a desire to create the feeling and essence of our special land. We recently won 2 Green Packaging Design Awards for our Artisan Botanical Perfume Range. I first started creating Perfumes when I lived in Greece and became totally hooked then and there. Living there for 20 years I was inspired by the contrast of Antiquities and Modern times, how many centuries of history could live side by side. I rode a motorbike in those days and would jump on a boat to a Greek Island, ride off at the other end and introduce my perfumes to beautiful craft shops there. It was a great life and I felt truly blessed! I love mixing and experimenting with new materials and putting visual ideas into perfume and everything that surrounds the process of creative business. I am interested in taking my Perfumes to a more conceptual state. I am excited about creating fragrances that expand peoples imagination and give them an appreciation of Natural Botanical oils, resins and the like. Its an extraordinary journey for me and it gives me great pleasure to share it. The Botanical natural ingredients are amazing, both to play with and wear. They’re totally interactive and become full of memories for the wearer. I believe we have to take care of the planet so we endeavor to produce something beautiful, with love, that does not take a great toll on the environment. I am hugely passionate about perfume, photography, drumming, traveling, nature, animal rights, environmental issues, dancing, creating food and documentaries on life’s important issues. I get inspired by Friends, Music, Poetry, Art , my animals and Extraordinary thoughts by Extraordinary people.
